INTERSTATE RELATIONS
ABKHAZIA AND SYRIA
On May 29, 2018, the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic announced mutual recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
— On September 4, 2018, a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was signed between the states.
— On September 6, 2018, an Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation was signed between Abkhazia and Syria. Under the Agreement, countries provide administrative facilities to obtain import licenses for goods originating from their territories and reduce customs duties by 100% on said goods.
— On October 6, 2020, the grand opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Syrian Arab Republic took place in Damascus. The event was attended by the heads of the Foreign Ministries of Abkhazia and Syria, as well as a number of official representatives of Sukhum and Damascus. In addition, the ceremony was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Syria, as well as the Ambassadors of Venezuela and Cuba.
— May 29, 2022 Syria and Abkhazia entered into an Agreement on Military Cooperation.
The agenda of interstate interaction between Abkhazia and Syria is expanding with new projects and areas of activity, and the bilateral legal framework is being strengthened.
